Memoirs has been getting a lot of attention of late. In one week it moved from 14613 to 402 in it's genre. Despite my first negative review as well.
"Memoirs" is not a book for general consumption, quite the contrary. I even have taken the step of warning the reader in the prologue. Be aware, you, the reader are an interactive part of this book. The Reader talks to you as he describes his journey. I have learned that one reader found that "undesirable". Each to his or her own. The reader felt the Reaper/writer was ranting about things unrelated to the story or plot. That certainly isn't my design. Yes, He/I rant from time to time, some social issues, some political, some silly. The point is, they are very much a part of why I wrote this particular story. It's a fun read if you take nothing away from it but the lesson learned by the Reaper. It is a spiritual story at it's core, from my perspective. I simply don't have an issue with whether you get it or not. I'm not proselyting new converts. I don't have a religious affiliation to support. They are simply observations to get people to think...nothing more.
my grandfather told me that it's very difficult to offend most people because, in his understanding, a person "chooses" to take offense; many times when it is not directed at them. I believe him. I believe one reader quit, not because of the format. The reader stopped after a generalization I made about a certain religious group. In another review, which was positive, the reader found the cussing to be somewhat offensive, but she pressed on, and loved the ending.
I'm offering it free May 1-3rd on Amazon Kindle.
Give it a shot. You might get offended, you might not, you may choose to take offense, or you may not. Either way, I assure the ending is not something you'll see coming. To date, no one, including my editor expected it. (She actually hit me with my manuscript, while crying before she hugged me.)
Let that sink in, then go get a copy - you have nothing to lose!
